Antech Diagnostics in Fountain Valley, CA is seeking a Parasitology Laboratory Technician I to perform analyses, prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests, read, interpret, and release results. The role requires attention to detail, ability to work in a team, and familiarity with lab procedures.

The position offers a schedule of 7:30am–4pm Saturday through Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday off, and a target pay rate of $20 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; science degree preferred.
• Parasitology knowledge and lab procedures preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced lab environment.
• Experience with lab equipment and PPE.

Responsibilities

• Set up, run, read, and release lab tests.
• Meet all minimum para and Giardia reading/releasing requirements.
• Exercise judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
• Perform equipment maintenance.
• Monitor quality control and calibration.
• Assist lead with rechecks as directed.
• Follow SOPs, safety, and quality procedures.
• Keep work area clean and stocked.
• May cross-train to other duties.
• Learn parasitology tasks from senior peers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Target Pay Rate

The Target Pay Rate for this position is $20 hourly. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Parasitology Laboratory Technician 1 performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Sets up, runs, reads, and releases lab tests.
• Meet all minimum department requirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasing
• rates.
• Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
• Performs equipment maintenance activities.
• Awareness of quality control and calibration.
• Assists lead or supervisor with rechecks as directed.
• Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
• Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies
• May be cross trained to perform other duties, such as performing less complex tests, including duties performed by Para Aide. Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
• Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required, Science degree or vet technician experience is preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments preferred.
• Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, Parasitology procedures, equipment, and familiarity with a microscope preferred
• General science background
• Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
• Positive, can-do attitude

Working Conditions

• Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
• Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
• Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
• Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
• The ability to observe details at close range
• Extended hours may be needed
• Sitting for extended periods of time
• Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE
• Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments
• Work under close to moderate supervision.
• Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
