JOB SUMMARY
Instructional Aide: The job goal is to improve the quality of services provided to students and act as a student advocate by assisting the teacher in implementing all aspects of the educational program, to assist with students to meet goals. The instructional aide takes no independent actions, but has some decision-making authority limited and regulated by board policy and state law. This also applies to those instructional aides who may hold degrees or certificates.
Individual Care Aide: This position is responsible for assisting the teacher in achieving objectives by working with the class, small groups, or individual students to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires reasonable duration of sitting, walking, and standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard-free environment. The employee would be expected to maintain emotional control under stress.
OTHER
The building administrator in cooperation with special education administrators are directly responsible for the administration of the evaluation system and will incorporate input from the assigned teacher(s). An evaluation report will be completed at least two times during the first year of employment and annually thereafter. The evaluation will include an observation and a conference with the employee to discuss the written evaluation.
