Job Title: Paraprofessional (Teachers' Aide)

Job Function: The Paraprofessional will assist full-time teachers, reinforcing materials and lessons covered in the classroom to facilitate student learning. This position coordinates with the Student Services Director, School Administrators, Teachers, Interventionists, and other school support staff, students, parents, and the community.

Term: Shall work all days of student attendance that require paraprofessional services as determined by the Board of Education and occasional days of non-student attendance, including Teacher Institute Days and School Improvement Days.

Duties and Responsibilities: This list is not all-inclusive and illustrates various responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the lead teacher in classroom instruction and management.
  • Assists with classroom activities and lessons.
  • Works with individual students requiring additional or modified instruction.
  • Administers assessments and quizzes.
  • Grades tests and homework, and completes clerical work related to classroom operations.
  • Prepares communication folders for students.
  • Monitors students when the lead teacher is out of the classroom.
  • Escorts students to other areas and monitors behavior during recess and lunch.
  • Assists with student drop-off and pickup.
  • Provides assistance with hygiene, food, and complex needs or medical devices as necessary.
  • Manages calendars and schedules appointments.
  • Monitors halls, study periods, and lunch with staff.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Attends scheduled work and arrives punctually.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of classroom procedures and management.
  • Ability to relate to children and reinforce lessons.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience: High school diploma required; Paraprofessional Educator License (PARA) within the first year; paraprofessional training through the District within the first year. An associate degree and three years of related experience are highly preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to navigate all school areas, stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 45 pounds, assist students with physical difficulties, kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull. Prolonged sitting and working on paperwork are expected. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
