Job summary

Allegan Public Schools in Allegan, MI seeks a Paraprofessional - Specialized Building Support - Level II to assist students with academic and behavioral needs in general education and Level II programs, under the Special Education team. This 7-hour/day position runs Monday through Friday during student days.

The role involves reinforcement, implementing IEP modifications, following behavior plans, and collaborating with teachers and families.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required; Highly Qualified per NCLB.
• Requires 60+ college credits or Parapro Assessment score 460.
• CPI training must be completed after hire; childcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom-based reinforcement to students receiving instruction in general education and special education classrooms.
• Assist the building with academic and behavioral instruction per the special education staff/principal.
• Follow positive behavior support plans and data collection as requested.
• Establish and maintain an instructional knowledge base supportive of positive behavioral change and academic achievement.
• Implement accommodations and modifications for IEPs for students.
• Maintain confidentiality of school-related information.
• Facilitate or assist in small group instruction and provide instruction to individuals as scheduled.
• Assist students with educational, personal, health and behavioral needs as applicable.
• Establish professional relationships with staff and parents/guardians.
• Participate in staff development and building meetings.
• Supervise children during unstructured times and transitions.
• Attend and participate in scheduled meetings.
• Assist the teacher with daily routines and classroom operations.
• Demonstrate understanding of student needs across academic, social, behavioral and developmental areas.
• Demonstrate initiative and creativity with students and their programs.
• Maintain flexibility with roles and schedules within the building.
• Provide support on the building crisis intervention team.
• Other duties as assigned.
