Paraprofessional - Special Education Pre-K (Community)
Position Summary

Under general supervision, supports assigned classroom and/or community-based Pre‑K teachers in providing safe, age‑appropriate and effective educational opportunities for Pre‑K aged students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to identified Pre‑K students with disabilities served in special‑education Pre‑K classrooms, GA Pre‑K classrooms, community early‑learning centers, and Pre‑K natural environments.
  • Lead instructional activities prepared by the teacher with small groups and individual students.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for instruction (including copying/duplicating materials and constructing bulletin boards).
  • Assist with data collection and administering informal assessments to monitor students’ progress.
  • Perform special duties as required to meet the unique and individual needs of Pre‑K age students with disabilities, such as lifting limited‑mobility students, assisting with toileting/personal hygiene, food preparation and feeding, implementing medical procedures, and specialized behavior‑management techniques as directed and trained.
  • Assist with routine record keeping and housekeeping.
  • Assist with classroom and school‑wide routines and management processes (e.g., student arrival and dismissal, monitoring students during meal and rest times, completing cleaning and sanitizing tasks).
Key Job Requirements
  • Either hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC‑accepted accredited institution; or have completed two years of college coursework (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) above remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC‑accepted accredited institution; or have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Paraprofessional experience serving school‑age children desirable.
  • Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC‑issued Paraprofessional License (the Certification Team will apply for the license upon hire).
  • Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations such as first aid, ability to perform a two‑person lift for students as needed, or behavior management preferred.
  • Light duty – on most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty pounds or less.

Salary: $23,910 to $33,252 – paid based on salary scale

NOTE: This is a grade 16, 190‑day position that starts at a step 6 and pays for experience up to a step 8.
