Job summary

Metter is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support instructional activities at multiple locations. This 190-day position requires teamwork with teachers, reliable attendance, and the ability to assist with student supervision and daily routines.

Responsibilities include assisting with lesson preparation, data collection, record keeping, field trips, and onsite supports during IEP-related meetings and related services.

Qualifications

  • Requires Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate or equivalent.
  • Education: associate degree or 60 college hours or passing GACE Paraprofessional exam.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and assist with two-person lifts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Assists classroom teacher with lesson activities and preparation.
  • Helps with record keeping and data collection.
  • Supports students during field trips and extracurricular activities.
  • Participates in in-service training and professional development.
  • Assists with hall duty, bus loading/unloading as directed.
  • Acts as lead substitute when the teacher is absent.
  • Assists with medical-related tasks as directed.
  • Aids in mobility and positioning of students as needed.
  • Maintains sanitary classroom environment and safety protocols.
  • Supports IEP-related activities and planning when teachers are out.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administrators.

Job Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Educational Level: Requires one of the following - associates degree; earned at least 60-semester hours of college creditwith a GPA of 2.0 or higher at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution; or passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Certification/License Required: Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate which includes in-service related to position
  • Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift a student up to a weight of 60 pounds without assistance; ability to perform a two person lift for students over 60 pounds
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Written and oral communication

REPORTS TO: Principal

PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Assists the classroom teacher in the preparation and implementation of class activities.
  • Assists classroom teacher with the record keeping process and data collection.
  • Participates in school functions, field trips and extracurricular activities as indicated.
  • Participates in on-going in-service training.
  • Assists with hall duty and bus loading and unloading as directed.
  • Assumes a lead role with the substitute teacher when the classroom teacher is absent.
  • Assists with toileting, diapering, food preparation, feeding and other delegated medical procedures as directed.
  • Assists with the movement of students from one area of the school to another or to a specialized position.
  • Assists with instruction, positioning, and therapy as directed by related service personnel.
  • Assists in maintaining a sanitary environment and handles body fluids following universal procedures.
  • Monitors the classroom during teacher’s participation in IEP meetings or other activities/planning which require the teacher to be out of the room
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190-day position. Salary based on Board approved salary schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal or designee.
