Job summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) in Tucson, AZ, is hiring a Paraprofessional (Teacher's Assistant) to support teachers and students in an advanced K-8 setting. Location: 434 W Lerdo Rd, Tucson.

Starting pay is $15.50 per hour, DOE, with start ASAP. Benefits include full medical, dental, vision, retirement with employer contributions, PTO, and disability and life insurance. This role may involve occasional substitute duties to keep learning on track.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; paraprofessional exam passed or higher education.
• Ability to obtain a Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support campus activities to ensure student safety.
• Assist lead teachers with instruction, classroom management, and transitions.
• Work one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce skills and support individualized learning plans.
• Substitute for lead teachers when needed to maintain learning continuity.
• Prepare instructional materials and assist with grading or documentation.

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is an academically advanced charter school network serving predominantly low-income students, with a decade-long track record of being either the highest or one of the highest performing K-8 charter schools in Arizona.

As part of the AMS family, your role as a paraprofessional is to work alongside our team of talented educators in guiding motivated students through an advanced curriculum. Your role in the classroom includes working with our scholars alongside the teacher and occasionally substituting for teachers when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and support with campus-wide activities such as lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal to ensure student safety
• Support lead teachers in delivering instruction by assisting with lesson activities, classroom management, and transitions.
• Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support individualized learning plans.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and engagement.
• Substitute for lead teachers as needed to ensure learning continues uninterrupted
• Prepare instructional materials, set up classroom resources, and assist with grading or documentation as directed
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students
• Model professionalism, respect, and high expectations in every interaction with students, staff, and families

Qualifications & competencies:

• High School diploma or equivalent and passed the paraprofessional exam OR Associate’s degree or higher
• Prior experience working with childrenin a school setting.
• Ability to obtain a Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
