Job description

Job Title: Paraprofessional

Reports to: Principal/Head of School

General Description and Goals:

Paraprofessionals will assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of students in Boston Public Schools. They will collaborate with school staff to create an educational environment emphasizing quality and continuity.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings.
  2. Assist with classroom activities.
  3. Prepare instructional materials.
  4. Help set up and clean up classrooms.
  5. Manage individual and classroom behavior using prescribed approaches.
  6. Supervise students during field trips.
  7. Perform other related duties as requested by the Head of School/Principal.

Qualifications - Required:

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Certification as a teacher or license as a social worker.
  • BPS values linguistic diversity; candidates fluent in BPS's official languages (Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali) are especially encouraged.

Terms: BTU, Paraprofessional hourly rate. For more information on compensation, please refer to the Salary Information section on the Career Site. Salaries vary by Union and Grade/Step.

Start and end times, as well as the length of the school day, vary across BPS schools. Some schools have extended hours through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
