Position Overview

Reports to: Principal/Headmaster

General Description and Goals: Paraprofessionals assist teachers in providing a high-quality education tailored to the needs of Boston Public Schools students. They collaborate with staff to foster an educational environment emphasizing quality and continuity.

Responsibilities
  • Support instruction for children individually, in small groups, and in classrooms
  • Assist with classroom activities and prepare instructional materials
  • Help set up and clean up classrooms
  • Manage behavior using prescribed approaches
  • Supervise students during field trips
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Headmaster/Principal
Qualifications
Required:
  • Valid Massachusetts Lifeguard Water Safety Certification
  • Valid Water Safety Instructor Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 48 college credit hours or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on ParaPro or WorkKeys assessments
  • At least two years of experience working with young children
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. by the first day
Preferred:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
  • Certification as a teacher or social worker
  • Fluency in BPS's official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean and Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali
Terms & Compensation

BTU, Paraprofessional hourly rate. Salary details are on the BPS Career Site. School hours vary; some schools have extended days under "Schedule A" ELT. Check BPS website for schedules and policies.
