Job summary

Corpus Christi Independent School District is seeking a Paraprofessional II (Special Education) to assist with implementing IEPs and supporting teachers and students in daily classroom activities.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 48 college hours and basic computer/data-entry skills. The paraprofessional will help prepare instructional materials, accompany students in various settings, and support behavior management under teacher direction.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plans with teacher and parents for development and execution of IEP.
  • Assist teacher in preparing and using instructional materials.
  • Instruct students and groups under teacher/administrator direction.
  • Assist students with learning activities and community-based instruction.
  • Accompany students to mainstream settings including cafeteria, library, field trips, assemblies, pep rallies, etc.
  • Monitor and assist with student behavior and implement behavior plans as directed.
  • Provide physical assistance to students as needed and assist with physical education and aquatics activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing instructional materials and student records.
  • Support transportation and clerical tasks as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus administrator.

Function

The Paraprofessional II (Special Education) assists in implementing the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP), participates in selecting, planning, organizing and evaluating materials, and releases the teacher from routine tasks.

Responsibilities
Instruction
  • Plans with teacher and parent(s)/guardian(s) for the development and implementation of the IEP.
  • Provides assistance to teacher in preparing and using instructional materials.
  • Instructsstudentsandgroupsofstudentsundertheteacher's/admnlstrator'sdirection.
  • Assists students with learning activities.
  • Provides community-based instruction as directed by teacher/administrator.
  • Accompanies students to mainstream settings working under the direction of the classroom teacher, including the cafeteria, library, field trips, assemblies, pep rallies, and other activities.
Behavior
  • Assists in monitoring and control of student behavior in the classroom and other areas.
  • Assists in the implementation and documentation of the student behavior management plan as directed by teacher/administrator.
  • Physically restrains students as directed.
Physical
  • Gives physical assistance to students as needed, including toileting, feeding, positioning, locomotion, and other services.
  • Assists with physical education activities and provides direct instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Provides in-pool assistance and instruction to students in the aquatics program.
Materials
  • Provides assistance to teacher in the preparation, usage, and storage of instructional materials, including bulletin boards, displays, centers, and media equipment.
  • Assists in keeping the classroom and restroom clean during the school day.
Community-Based Instruction
  • Accompanies students via public transportation to community-based training sites and provides direct instruction as directed by the teacher.
Transportation
  • Assists and/or monitors the transportation of students.
Clerical
  • Assists in maintaining student records, including grades, attendance, and student folders.
  • Assists in collating information and preparing reports, including enrollments, class counts, and contact hours.
  • Schedules and/or notifies participants and assists in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) and IEP process (secondary only).
  • Assists in the development and production of IEPs.
  • Obtains and disseminates information regarding student lessons and progress.
Testing
  • Assists in testing routines.
  • Scores objective measurement instruments.
Other
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the campus administrator.

  • Challenging situations, limited in-District travel, and moderate to heavy lifting
