Job summary

Marshall Public School District seeks a classroom paraprofessional to assist in instruction and support students with diverse needs. Responsibilities include aiding instruction, reading tests to students, monitoring behavior, and assisting with IEP accommodations.

The nine-month position pays according to the board's schedule. Applicants must meet one of the education paths listed, and pass a district background check to be eligible for employment.

Qualifications

• Must have one of the listed credentials or trainings.
• Paraprofessional qualifications per district requirements.
• Background check required by Marshall Public School District.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in classroom instruction.
• Reads tests to students and makes accommodations from IEP.
• Participates in class activities and monitors student behavior as needed.
• Inputs student scores into the computer.
• Maintains relationships with staff and students and supports learning.
• Keeps records, writes lessons on the board and corrects student work.
• Walks students to and from the bus when required.
• Supervises students with behavior difficulties between classes as needed.

Education

60 college hours and sub certificate

20 hour substitute training from DESE and sub certificate

Passing score on para pro exam and 20 hour substitute training from DESE and sub certificate

Job description

SUMMARY:

Assist teachers in educating students. (Note: Every classroom paraprofessional in the district has specific duties to perform. This is determined by the age of the students worked with and/or the specific needs of the students.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties may be assigned.

• Assist teacher in classroom instruction.
• Reads tests to students and makes other accommodations from the IEP.
• At times participates in Social Studies and Science Class-Within-A-Class educational opportunities. (Takes notes during class, monitors behavior of students, works with individual students, etc.)
• Inputs student scores into computer.
• Has a good working relationship with regular staff members, special staff members, and students.
• Demonstrates understanding of students' difficulties.
• Maintains classroom bulletin boards.
• Keeps records, writes lessons on the board and corrects student work.
• Walks students to and from the bus (as needed).
• Walks with students that have behavior difficulties between classes (as needed).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must have one of the following:

• 60 college hours and sub certificate
• 20 hour substitute training from DESE and sub certificate
• Passing score on para pro exam and20 hour substitute training from DESE and sub certificate

EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine-month employee. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
