Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Evidence that meets the NCLB certification requirements (60 credits or higher education, OR Associate's Degree or higher, OR passed the ODE paraprofessional exam)
  • The ability to obtain an Ohio Teacher's Educational Aide Certification
  • The ability to complete 45 hours of training in child development; early childhood education; child abuse recognition and prevention; first aid; and management of communicable diseases and maintain a notebook of trainings

Responsibilities

  • Assist Teachers in providing educational benefits for students
  • Work with students on academic assignments and/or physical needs
  • Assist Teachers in preparing materials, operating classroom or mobility assistive technology, and attending trainings
  • Move and assist with lifts up to 300 pounds with appropriate support and safety
  • Assist students in transitions between classes within a 4 minute passing time
  • Assist students on steps and boarding/exiting transportation
  • Move from seated position to standing at least 15-20 times per 3-hour period
  • Run after and catch students if needed
  • Provide diapering and restroom assistance as needed
  • Collaborate with teachers to collect student data and support instruction

Job Description

Who We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Paraprofessional at Clark PreSchool for the 2026-2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. As a Paraprofessional you are required to:

  • AHigh School diploma or equivalent
  • Evidence thatmeets the NCLB certification requirements (completedsixty (60) credithoursof higher education, OR obtained an Associate's Degree or higher, OR havepassed the ODE paraprofessional exam)
  • The ability to obtain anOhio Teacher's Educational Aide Certification
  • The ability to complete forty-five (45) hours of training in child development; early childhood education; child abuse recognition and prevention; first aid; and prevention, recognition and management of communicable diseases and maintain a notebook of all required trainings

As a Paraprofessional you will:

  • Assist Teachers in providing educational benefits for students
  • Work with students on academic assignments and / or physical needs
  • Assist Teachers in preparing materials, operating classroom or child mobility assistive technology, and attending workshops, seminars, and training programs
  • Lifting of students up to 50 pounds using a 1 person lift, or up to 300 pounds using a 2 person lift, pivot with the weight and transport up to 10 feet. Lifts may be conducted up to 20 times per day.
  • Assisting students in transition between classes within a 4 minute passing time by walking, guiding or pushing the student.
  • Assisting students on steps, boarding and exiting transportation vehicles. Assistance includes supporting, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 300 pounds.
  • Moving from a seated position on the floor to standing and moving about the classroom at least 15-20 times per 3 hour period.
  • The ability to run after and catch a student in flight. Running may occur on hard, soft, and uneven surfaces.
  • Assisting with delegated nursing duties, which may include catheterization, tube feeding, administration of diastat, and other duties that may be delegated, with proper training.
  • Providing diapering and restroom assistance as needed.
  • Maintaining a solution-focused mindset and a regulated emotional state at all times.
  • Adopting the Leader in Me framework and collaborating with colleagues to teach your students the frame at school.
  • Collaborating with teachers and colleauges to collect student data and provide instruction to students.

What We Offer: As a contracted employee, this position works 7hours per day, 192days per year. Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 3:45pm Starting salary is $19.79 per hour Salary and other details available online in the Springfield Education United Support Staff agreement (SEUSS).
