Mission Graduatesincreases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco’s Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. Founded in 1972, Mission Graduates provides a wide range of afterschool, in-school, and summer programs, helping to establish college education as an expectation and goal for every child. Each year, Mission Graduates reaches over 3,600 low-income children, youth, and families in San Francisco, emphasizing college as a means to achieve economic equity and strengthen the fabric of our community.


Program Overview:The Extended Day Program (EDP) is an award-winning afterschool academic enrichment program serving over 1,000+ students at 8 schools: Alvarado ES, Bryant ES, Cleveland ES, Flynn ES, Everett Middle School, Marshall ES, Sanchez ES, and Thomas Edison Charter Academy.


Position Summary: Assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting with pupils who have moderate to severe impairing conditions as determined by an individualized education program (IEP). The primary objective of such assistance is to affect learning for mastery by implementing both developmental and remedial methods in basic skill areas and content areas. The employee assists staff by implementing lesson plans (activities which include reviewing and completing the work of pupils), participating in parent conferences, keeping relevant records, operating instructional equipment in appropriate instructional settings, as well as performing related duties as required.

  • Must be able to work Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 1:30-5:00 pm and Wednesdays 12:30-5:00 pm

  • Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the Distinguishing Characteristics of the class listed above, examples of which may include familiarity with teaching methods, instructional media, test scoring, school organization, and school rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrates competency in performing the following tasks: working with pupils who have been designated non-severely impaired by an IEP, acting quickly and effectively in emergencies, working with and relating to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of school community

  • developing and maintaining effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff and public.

  • 4 years of proven experience and ability in working in education and/or youth programs.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation.

  • BA or BS required.

  • TB test clearance is mandatory prior to hire.

  • Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.
