Job Description

Carlisle Public School is seeking a paraprofessional to collaborate with classroom staff in Grade 3 to support elementary students who have IEPs and are integrated into our general education classrooms.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience working with students with disabilities
  • Training or coursework in special education preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Student Support Services may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services/Elementary Principal/Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL: To work closely with students with disabilities in an effort to provide them with instructional and/or social emotional support as needed for effective progress, while assisting the special and general education staff in implementing IEP goals.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide academic support and direct instruction to students in a small group and classroom setting to meet IEP goals/objectives.
  • Assist teachers with the implementation of appropriate curriculum, lessons, alternate assessments and modifications for children with special needs.
  • Provide supervision of the classrooms during times in which the special educator is required to be elsewhere in the building.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques and/or individual behavior support plans during individual, small group instruction and/or within the general education setting.
  • Attend planning meetings, in-service workshops/trainings, team meetings, and parent-teacher conferences, when requested by the Program Administrator.
  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet individual student needs and IEP goals/objectives.
  • Consult with teachers, special educators, and therapists around designated students, on a regular basis, to discuss student progress and to support and carry over classroom and therapy goals and strategies.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current IEPs of assigned student/s and collect data as requested.
  • Supervise students with disabilities outside of regular class times, including but not limited to the transition from and to transportation, lunch, recess, field trips, assemblies, emergency drills, and hallway passing.
  • Provide students with necessary supports while fostering and facilitating increasing independence.
  • Assume assigned duties in another classroom if requested by the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism expected of the teaching staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
PHYSICAL REQUIRESMENTS:
  • This position may require lifting, positioning, and transitioning students, as needed, according to caseload/classroom assignment. Demands for lifting may be up to 50 pounds.
