Job summary

Homer A. Plessy Community School seeks a special education paraprofessional to support students within classrooms and other settings under the supervision of teachers and administration.

Responsibilities

• Support students directly in academic, social, emotional, self-help, and health development and goals.
• Assist in keeping students safe and engaged in the classroom.
• Support teachers in academic, social, emotional, self-help, and health development of students with disabilities.
• Assist in implementation and progress monitoring of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Provide individual support to students within and outside the general setting to maximize access to activities.
• Maintain and assist with IEP records.
• Collaborate with a team of professionals such as speech therapists, counselors, and occupational therapists.

Job description

Special education paraprofessionals, under the direct supervision of special education teachers and administration, will support and assist students within the classroom or other educational settings so that all support needs of students are met. Specific roles/duties will include working with specific preK - 1st grade students

DUTIES

• Support the students directly in academic, social, emotional, self-help, and health development and goals
• Support the students directly in staying safe and engaged in the classroom
• Support special education and general education teachers in their academic, social, emotional, self-help, and health development of students with disabilities.
• Support the implementation and progress monitoring of Individualized Education Plans.
• Provide individual support to the students both within and outside of the general setting to provide access to general activities to the maximum extent possible.
• Assist both special education as well as general education teachers with maintaining student IEP records.
• Work within a team of other professionals such as speech therapist, counselor, occupational therapist, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate Degree OR Pass ParaPro Praxis and High school diploma or equivalent OR Forty-eight (48) hours of approved college courses
