Job summary

Responsibilities

• Carries out small group lesson plans and works on individual education plans as directed by the supervising teacher.

• Communicates with students to help them understand directions and access the curriculum.
• Learn how to use equipment needed for student access to the curriculum.
• Accepts training to support success and student needs.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
• Maintains professional attitude toward the public and colleagues, and provides good customer service.
• Recognizes cultural diversity and adheres to regulations and policies.
• Participates in training and staff development; takes on new challenges professionally.
• Takes direction from supervisor and provides adequate supervision of students.
• Disciplines students with fairness and equity.
• Substitutes in classrooms as needed.
• Other duties as assigned; be reliable and present at work.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Must hold a minimum of an associate’s degree, it’s equivalent, or taken and passed the professional certification assessment. Priority will be given to individuals who hold a teaching certificate.

Goal

This position is a classified position that supports the instructional success of students within the classroom through a variety of strategies in specified areas under the supervision of a highly qualified teacher.

Representative Duties & Responsibilities

• Carries out small group lesson plans and works on individual education plans as directed by the supervising teacher.
• Communicates well with the teacher in order to describe behaviors, academic successes, and areas of difficulty.
• Communicates well with students in order to help them understand directions and to access the curriculum as successfully as possible.
• Learn how to use any equipment the student may need to access the curriculum.
• Accepts training that will support the overall ability to be successful at jon and support student needs.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
• Acts in a professional manner and maintains a professional attitude towards the public and colleagues and exhibits the fundamentals of good public/customer service.
• Recognizes cultural diversity in dealing with students, parents, coworkers and the public.
• Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics, as related to job requirements.
• Participates in appropriate training, workshops, and staff development activities and applies information learned to the job; and accepts new challenges in a professional manner.
• Takes direction readily in a cooperative manner from the supervisor.
• Provides adequate supervision of students at all times.
• Disciplines students with fairness and equity.

In-School Suspension

• Supervise students who are placed in an in-school suspension classroom based on disciplinary action.
• Monitor student progress of work as assigned by their teachers both on-site and online.
• Supervise and support students as they participate in beautification of the facility during their in-school suspension.
• Supervise students during assigned duties before and after school.
