The Medical Transport shift supervisor ensures that emergency and non-emergency patient transportation and associated communication is performed professionally and efficiently. The scope of services provided by direct reports includes treatment and transportation of patients requiring ambulance service, mental health transportation, wheelchair van transportation, and emergency medical communications. The supervisor monitors daily transportation status in regard to asset accountability to ensure that clinical needs nor patient length of stay are compromised. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the supervisor must continuously assess staff morale and implement or recommend measures that promote teamwork and a "can do" spirit.
Licensure or other certifications: Georgia Licensed Paramedic; if EMT must have state license as EMT-I, or AEMT.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience: Five (5) years experience as a paramedic on an ambulance or five (5) years as an EMT-I or AEMT.
Preferred Experience: Experience or training in supervision or leadership.
Demonstrated knowledge of patient transportation logistics for a multi-campus system.
Clear understanding of the Medicare definition of medical necessity as it relates to ambulance service.
Actively engages in conflict resolution.
Keen understanding of the importance of positively motivating and encouraging staff.
Ability to assess and mitigate risk when making command decisions.
Recognizes the importance of effective communication.
Ability to provide initial troubleshooting of computer and communication related equipment.
Ability to staff any line-level position within Medical Transport in order to avert staffing crisis.
Receives and schedules all requests for all levels of patient transportation.
Ensures that patients receive timely, safe, and efficient transportation.
Produces reports that summarize the daily activity of incoming and outgoing patient transportation.
Effectively facilitates the onboarding of new staff.
Manages the staffing schedule to allocate resources to the most appropriate location.
Prepares staff and responds to emergent situations such as "Ambulance Diversion" and "Code Triage."
Facilitates early administrative notification of variances as defined by department policy.
Monitors the compliance of staff with departmental policies, procedures, and directives.
Ensures that variances are accurately reported.
Provides initial investigation of variances.
Continually assesses employee relations - rewarding and recognizing those that exemplify the expectations of the department as well as intervening early when expectations are not being met.
Responds immediately to internal and external customer concerns.
Oversees the pre-hospital direction of inbound ambulances ensuring that destination decisions between Braselton and Gainesville are consistent with campus capability and capacity.
