Job summary

Advocate Health Care seeks an EMS Lead Instructor (CAAHEP Paramedic Program Director) to oversee the paramedic education program within the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital EMS System.

The role includes curriculum design, quality improvement, and ensuring compliance with Illinois, NREMT, and CAAHEP standards. Collaboration with medical leadership and staff is essential for ongoing accreditation and program success.

Qualifications

  • Emergency or Critical Care RN or Paramedic with a minimum of 3 years' experience.
  • CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, NAEMT Instructor or within 6 months of hire.
  • 2 years' teaching experience with curriculum development.
  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience with pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Administrative and/or project management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing the curriculum for the program including didactic, clinical, psychomotor, and affective domains.
  • Performing continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program.
  • Meeting state of Illinois, NREMT, and CAAHEP requirements for curriculum compliance and administrative deadlines.
  • Cooperative involvement with the Medical Director, Lead Instructors, contracted faculty, EMSS staff, hospital administration, and EMS system administrators and personnel.
  • Measuring effectiveness of the program and having systems in place to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program.
  • Determining long range planning and ongoing development of the program.
  • Maintaining status as an Illinois State Lead Instructor and Instructor in CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, NAEMT.
  • Designing and delivering preceptor training annually.
  • Having adequate controls in place to evaluate and assure the quality of the delegated responsibilities in the classroom, hospital clinical sites, and in prehospital internship sites.
  • Maintaining all aspects of the program to allow for continued CAAHEP accreditation, including submission of the annual report, RAM, and self-study documents by deadline.
  • Conducting the Program Advisory Board meeting twice/year, according to requirements.
  • Conducting the admission application, testing, interviewing, and selection process annually.

To be the EMS Lead Instructor (CAAHEP Paramedic Program Director) for the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital EMS System. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Paramedic Program and has 24-hour accountability.

Job Description

Organizes, administers, and supervises the education requirements of the Paramedic Program of the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital EMS System. The EMS Lead Instructor is responsible for:

Major Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing the curriculum for the program including, but not limited to, the didactic, clinical, psychomotor, and affective domains

Licensure

Assumes other responsibilities as needed.

  • State of Illinois Nurse, Registered (RN) OR Licensed Paramedic
  • Illinois EMS Lead Instructor
Education/Experience Required
  • Emergency or Critical Care RN or Paramedic with a minimum of 3 years' experience
  • CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, NAEMT Instructor or within 6 months of hire.
  • 2 years' teaching experience with curriculum development
  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Must demonstrate competence in critical and emergency care. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to competently perform all skills taught within the curriculum
  • Ability to effectively educate adult learners
  • Ability to work independently and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, and power point
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Transport of equipment for training and testing. Required to drive to the classroom, hospital Simulation Lab, fire departments, local college, and meetings. Necessary to lift equipment for instruction and class set-up.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds without assistance.
