Job Summary:

Independently works off assessment skills to activate patient care protocols, delivering care within the Tennessee paramedic scope of practice and Vanderbilt paramedic scope. Responsible for triage care in the field and Emergency Department, ensuring safe and quality patient care through effective communication within the paramedic team, during transport, and handover.

Department Summary:

LifeFlight Ground EMS started with a single ambulance in fall 2011. Now, it includes 21 ALS-equipped ground ambulances across four locations in Middle Tennessee: Nashville, Lebanon, Tullahoma, and Clarksville. These ambulances mainly handle interfacility transfers and discharges from Vanderbilt-affiliated facilities, with support for non-Vanderbilt facilities as well.

Shifts: Variable 12-hour shifts, including some nights, weekends, and holidays:

• 7a-7p
• 7p-7a

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate actively with healthcare team members to provide direct patient care.
• Transport patients via various modes, providing ALS and Critical Care management for all ages.
• Respond to emergency requests within Vanderbilt and contracted events.
• Use problem-solving skills to independently resolve patient issues and collaborate with HCT for solutions.
• Identify and resolve patient and unit problems, following through to implementation.
• Communicate patient handovers effectively to healthcare team.

Technical Capabilities:

• Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Novice): Demonstrates fundamental proficiency in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Medication Management (Novice): Conducts comprehensive assessments of medication adherence, history, and potential issues, with the ability to contact primary care providers.
• Critical Thinking (Novice): Shows clarity, accuracy, and sound evidence in completing tasks and projects.
• Airway Establishing (Novice): Demonstrates proficiency in airway management in moderate difficulty scenarios.
• Ventilator Management (Novice): Manages ventilators effectively in moderate difficulty situations.
