Job description

The Paramedic will assist the nursing and physician staff in providing patient care in the emergency room and med/surg unit as well as be an active member of the rapid response team. Paramedics perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, CARES values and standards. Allowable procedures and pursuant with the scope of care from the Oklahoma State Department of Health “Standard of Care” 310:641-5-30. While working, the Paramedic shall continue to practice under the license of the Emergency Services Medical Director and direction of the Facility CNO.

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborates in the assessment of the patient and/or situations in a timely, consistent and systematic manner. Assists RN in collection of admission data to be used in the assessment of patients at presentation to ED and appropriate procedures initiated.
  2. Gathers data to be used for assessments for each patient as frequently as necessary. Data relevant to the patient is recorded on appropriate documents before the patient is released or discharged.
  3. Notifies ED provider and/or assigned nurse when changes occur.
  4. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms understandable to the pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  5. Implements plan of care under direction of the RN to achieve identified outcomes for the patient according to policy and procedure. Provides care to the patient under the direction of the RN according to the prescribed plan of care.
  6. Paramedic shall perform procedures at their respective level of licensure in accordance with guidelines and other delegated tasks approved to perform.
  7. Delegates appropriate and approved tasks to unlicensed health care providers.
  8. Has knowledge of dysrhythmias and notifies assigned nurse and/or physician in a timely manner when patient’s condition warrants.
  9. Monitors patients that require constant cardiac monitoring during transport to another department. Demonstrates effective and accurate verbal and written communication.
  10. Maintains strict confidentiality of patients, employees, and hospital business.
  11. Ensures a clean and safe workplace which is stocked with necessary supplies. Conducts walk-through of rooms and restocks rooms with needed supplies each day at the beginning of shift.
  12. Maintains equipment, instruments, and tray in good working order. Reports and labels all faulty equipment and returns to appropriate department. Ensures replacement of equipment is obtained.
  13. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and 12 lead ECG. Performs 12 lead ECG on the patient according to CH policy and procedure.
  14. Performs clerical duties efficiently when assigned to desk duty. Answers phone utilizing appropriate telephone etiquette and professionalism. Uses overhead paging system in a professional manner.

Accountability:

  1. Reports to: Director of Nursing, Registered Nurse
  2. Supervises: Patient Care Tech

Licensures & Experience:

  1. Current Licensed Paramedic with the State of Oklahoma required.
  2. Computer and office equipment skills.
  3. BLS healthcare provider required within 30 days of hire, and ACLS and PALS within 90 days of hire.
