The Paramedic is responsible for providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) services. Provides quality pre-hospital care to individuals of all age groups when delivering emergency care and transportation. Ensures the safe and prompt transportation of patients while providing timely, professional care. This role may involve working in hazardous conditions and uncontrolled environments, wearing appropriate PPE. The position requires critical thinking to assess, triage, communicate, treat, and transport patients across various settings, including emergency and non-emergency transport, standby, and special events. The paramedic must coordinate seamlessly with other emergency agencies and healthcare providers. All patient care reports must be completed for each patient. Daily operational tasks support the department, and actions must comply with New Jersey Guidelines (N.J.A.C. 8:41), HMH protocols, policies, and procedures for ALS services.

Responsibilities
  1. Respond to calls promptly.
  2. Support public safety personnel and healthcare providers in patient care.
  3. Perform assessments, utilize critical thinking, and determine treatment plans based on patient condition.
  4. Modify care to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, communicating effectively at their level.
  5. Gather essential data, perform physical exams, and report findings to medical control.
  6. Attend to patients during transport, ensuring comfort and safety.
  7. Operate emergency vehicles safely, adhering to laws and policies, and share driving responsibilities.
  8. Perform vehicle and equipment checks daily, maintain cleanliness, and ensure readiness.
  9. Use communication devices professionally to coordinate dispatch and medical control.
  10. Participate in Quality Assurance programs and document all patient care accurately.
  11. Maintain supplies, troubleshoot equipment, and report issues promptly.
  12. Document incidents and events per policies.
  13. Provide education and training within scope and as directed.
  14. Stay current with policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to EMS and paramedic roles.
  15. Ensure certifications are current and report any issues immediately.
  16. Maintain clinical competency through training and reviews.
  17. Deliver excellent customer service and participate as a preceptor or Field Training Officer when assigned.
  18. Uphold HMH Code of Conduct and Standards of Behavior.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, IS-800.D courses or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Associate's degree.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic Certification, NREMT Paramedic, or MICN.
  • AHA BLS/HCP, ACLS, PALS certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Trauma Life Support certifications within 6 months of employment.

Working Conditions
  • Involves lifting, carrying, and climbing in and out of ambulances and tight spaces.
