Job summary

Northwell Career Site is seeking a Paramedic to provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transport. The role emphasizes Advanced Life Support, rapid assessment, and communication with dispatch and hospital teams.

The position requires NYS EMT-Paramedic certification, a NYS driver’s license, and 1–3 years of relevant experience. Training and certification maintenance are ongoing within a dynamic EMS environment.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• Driver's license valid in New York State (current and without violations).
• Current NYS DOH EMT-Paramedic certification.
• Must meet NYS DOH Functional Description for EMT-Paramedic.
• Current NYC REMAC Paramedic preferred.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to assignments and updates unit status.
• Assesses the patient’s illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures per NYS DOH guidelines.
• Administers Advanced Life Support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings.
• Coordinates with partners, patients, public safety personnel, colleagues, and hospital staff to facilitate care delivery.
• Communicates with dispatchers, medical control, or treatment center personnel for instructions.
• Writes a comprehensive report documenting scene, exam, orders, treatments, and outcomes.
• Completes check of vehicle equipment ands systems, and completes manifest at start of tour.
• Ensures the ambulance complies with 10 NYCRR 800 and Departmental policies.
• Safeguards and maintains Department equipment and property.
• Attends training classes to maintain certification and stay abreast of new developments.
• Performs medical histories and physical exams as indicated on patients in the field.
• Performs related duties as required; all essential functions per ADA.

Job Description

Paramedics provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation by ambulance for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Paramedics use Advanced Life Support knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.

Job Responsibility

• Responds to assignments as directed and updates unit status as required.
• Assesses the patient’s nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures in accordance with New York State Department of Health Guidelines.
• Administers first aid treatment or Advanced Life Support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings.
• Coordinates or interacts professionally with partners, patients, public safety personnel, colleagues, and hospital emergency staff to facilitate care delivery.
• Communicates with dispatchers, medical control, or treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of patients, or to receive instructions for further treatment.
• Writes a comprehensive report documenting the situation at the scene, physical exam, orders received, treatments rendered, response to these treatments, and other information deemed pertinent.
• Completes check of vehicle equipment and systems, and completes manifest at start of tour. Responsible for competent operation of all equipment and systems. Reports and relays needed repairs to supervisor.
• Ensures the ambulance complies with 10 NYCRR 800 and Departmental policies.
• Safeguards and maintains Department equipment and property.
• Operates Department vehicles in accordance with New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws and Department policies.
• Attends training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge.
• Performing medical histories and physical exams as indicated on patients in the field.

Job Qualification

• Must meet the criteria for NYS DOH Functional Description for qualifications, competencies, and tasks (EMT-Paramedic).
• Current New York City REMAC Paramedic, preferred.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
