Job summary

Excelsior Ambulance Service is seeking a Paramedic (Part Time, PRN) in Charleston, SC. Under the direction of the Area Manager, you will provide emergency medical care to sick and injured in accordance with laws and service policies.

You will assess calls, use paramedic equipment, document patient information, and lead scene operations as needed. This role requires lifting and vehicle operation duties and collaboration with public safety teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• State Paramedic License required.
• State Driver's License required.
• BLS, PALS, ACLS, and NREMT-Paramedic certifications (SC & AL) required.
• Driving record in compliance with company policy.
• Pass Physical Agility Test.
• Some healthcare work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess each call to determine best action with Paramedic protocols.
• Utilize Paramedic skills on defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen, suction, IV fluids.
• Document patient information and treatment while maintaining confidentiality.
• Communicate with patients and family to provide information and reassurance.
• Act as Paramedic team leader and manage scene and unit as needed.
• Drive the ambulance on emergency responses.
• Collaborate with allied health and public safety personnel.

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Paramedic will perform duties associated with providing emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Excelsior Ambulance Service policies.

Responsibilities:

• Assess each call situation to determine the best course of action while working with progressive Paramedic protocols.
• Utilize your Paramedic skills on medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, and intravenous fluids to provide advanced medical care.
• Document patient information, condition and treatment while maintaining confidentiality and patient rights.
• Communicate with patients and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given.
• Act as Paramedic team leader and take responsibility for the scene and unit management as needed.
• Drive the ambulance on emergency responses.
• Work collaboratively and in a professional manner with all allied health and public safety personnel as well as your fellow Paramedics.

Physical Requirements:

The following physical demands are essential job functions and must be performed by all employees in this role, with or without reasonable accommodation. These requirements are fundamental to the safe and effective performance of duties and are necessary to meet operational and patient safety standards.

• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 180 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds with assistance from others.
• Ability to push and pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to sit, stand, and remain in continuous control of a vehicle and/or patient compartment for long periods (3+ hours) without unscheduled stops.
• Ability to perceive and respond to auditory and visual cues necessary for safe patient transport, vehicle operation, and communication.
• Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods necessary for safe patient and crew transport.
• Ability to safely assist with patient movement, including lifting, dragging, hoisting, rolling, sliding, and carrying, using proper body mechanics and patient-handling equipment.
• Ability to successfully pass the Physical Agility Test and any periodic or post-incident fitness-for-duty evaluations required to verify the ability to perform essential job functions.
• Good physical stamina, endurance, and overall body condition, not adversely affected by walking, standing, lifting, carrying, and balancing as required by the position.

Other Responsibilities:

• Participate in community programs to maintain Excelsior Ambulance Service's image and establish strong community relations.
• Follow all Excelsior Ambulance Service safety procedures, including proper use of patient-handling equipment and team lifting techniques.
• Immediately report any injury, illness, or condition - whether work-related or not - that may affect the ability to safely perform essential job functions.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operational protocols.
