Job summary

Pafford Emergency Medical Services in Mississippi seeks a dedicated paramedic to provide Advanced Life Support and coordinate EMS response across the service area. You will assess patients, administer care, document treatments, and communicate with receiving hospitals to ensure seamless transitions of care.

Job description

  • Provides and directs fast, efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured utilizing all basic and advanced abilities and techniques, including but not limi ted to the placement of peripheral and intra-o sseous lin es, Supraglottic airways, endotracheal intubations , Cricothyrotomy, fluid and drug therapy, cardiac monitoring and EKG int erp ret ations, defibrillation, and cardioversion;
  • Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable and acceptab l e differential diagnosis;
  • Recognizes common cardiacdysrhythmias and understands the principles and treatment modalities forlife-threatening dysrhythmias ;
  • Understa nd s and anticipates the pharmacological treatment of critically ill and injured patients;
  • Understands and anticipates potentially life-threatening presentation of non-cardiac emergenc i es andinstitut e s appropriat e e mergency therapy where essential for the preservation of life;
  • Deals with the medical andemotiona l needsof any victimofacuteillnessorinjurywiththegoal of reducingmortalityand morbidity;
  • Responsible for managing and directing all first responders at the scene of a medical emergency such as EMRs, Police Departments, and EMTs;
  • Responsible for quality patient care as established by the Company;
  • Files standard i zed reportsofpatient informationand care forthe useofreceiving hospital andadministration,including natureofrequestfor aid,pertinentpasthistory,therapyprovided diagnosis, disposition,andsufficientpatient informationforbilling purposes;
  • Maintains effective communication with physici a n ondutyat thehospitalto relate patient condition and obtainorders for treatment;
  • Follows standard written protocols when a physician cannot be contacted;
  • Transport s the ill and injured to institution s of medical care ;
  • Operates emergency vehicles in a safe manner under all conditions;
  • Properly comp l etes patient statistics and medical information forms fo r administrative use ;
  • Performs technical r escues in remo v ing victims from varied terrain and circumstances; and
  • Follow s stan dard operating policies and procedure s as de ve l oped and direc ted by the Company ;
  • Cleans and Maintains equipment .

GENERAL INFORMATION :

The s upervi so r makes assignmentsinterms of shifts tobeworked and the generalscopeofthework assignment. Theincumbent performs theworkinaccordance withtheprocedures,policies,andmedicalordersprovided. The incumbent mustexercisejudgmentinapplying the proper guidelinesto the proper situation. The workisspot-checked and evaluated based on feedback fromthe patient,medical staff, and others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess and maintain:

  • CPR for the Health Care Provider
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Good knowledge of the street sys tem s, addresses, andphysica l layoutofthearea,and of the rescueequipment andtheemergency medicalequipmentusedinAdvanced Life Support.

  • D rive and operate emergency ambulance units;

Additionally, incumbents must maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency para-medicine and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses, and seminars both on and off dut y to maintain annual paramedic certification, as required by the state in which they will be working.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The work requires the incumbent to operate emergency medica l vehicles , move medica l equipment, and extract injured persons from a wide variety of situations. The situation can in vo l ve veh i cular, industrial, and residential accidents, injurie s, or illn ess and occ ur anywhere in our coverage area. At times the work requires mov e m ent over various types of terrain , (hilly , steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet/s li ppery surfaces). The incumbent always must be able to carry or help carry someone from the site of the injury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend the injured party to the hospital. In order to perform a physical assessment of the injured party, the incumbent must see, hear, and communicate wi t h the injured party.

Param ed ic s wi ll be i ss ued and must wear company-issued uniforms while o n duty;additionally,Paramedicswillberesponsible forthemaintenanceand cleaningofuniforms,as wellas allissuedequipment.
Paramedics arerequiredto carry a Company-issuedpager/radio at alltimestoreceiveimmediatenotificationof an assignment.
