Job description

The Opportunity

Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures, supervising immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations, and providing limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including administering medications or treatments as permitted by licensure or certification.

You will report to the Center Manager.

The Role

• Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
• Conduct confidential interviews to assess donor suitability.
• Coordinate with medical staff on donor health issues.
• Perform health assessments and review laboratory tests to determine donor eligibility.
• Notify and counsel donors regarding test results and follow-up care.
• Explain informed consent procedures and obtain signatures.
• Handle medical emergencies according to SOPs and maintain emergency supplies.
• Review test results for continued donor eligibility.
• Manage donor immunization programs and review antibody titers.
• Accurately record donor data in the electronic system.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and ensure supplies are available.
• Follow all safety and confidentiality policies.
• May be cross-trained in other areas and required to work overtime.

Your Skills And Experience

Education

• Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic program.
• Foreign medical graduates must be licensed or certified accordingly.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year in a healthcare setting.
• Experience in blood collection or regulated environments preferred.
• Ability to perform physical assessments and instruct donors and staff.

Working Conditions

• Ability to make decisions impacting the work unit.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
• Physical ability to perform tasks including standing, walking, lifting, and assessing abnormalities.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to hazards, requiring PPE and possible overtime.
