Job Overview

Full‑time tenure‑track, 10‑month classroom teaching assignment in the Health & Safety Sciences Division. Paramedic Instructor reports directly to the Director of Emergency Medical Services Programs. The teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote time to professional duties. Courses may be taught onsite, online, hybrid, evening, or Saturday.

Responsibilities

• Teach 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester in Paramedic courses using demonstrations, active‑learning strategies, and appropriate instructional technology.
• Maintain five posted office hours per week and provide timely student support.
• Prepare lecture materials, create and distribute syllabi, recommend instructional resources, and keep accurate records of attendance, census, and grades.
• Participate in faculty/division meetings, yearly program reviews, curricular planning, development, implementation, assessment, and program evaluation.
• Engage in faculty professional development and continuing education to maintain currency in the field, pedagogy, and student‑support strategies.
• Communicate effectively in oral and written formats and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Ensure an environment conducive to effective learning, including quality laboratory/clinical experiences, cleanliness, and proper operation of instructional equipment.
• Assist in recruitment and retention efforts, advocate for students, and serve as an educational advisor.
• Travel between district locations as required.
• Perform other instructional‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Meeting California Community Colleges minimum qualifications: (i) any Bachelor’s or higher degree and at least two years of professional experience; (ii) any associate degree and at least six years of professional experience; or (iii) equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
• Three years of EMS experience at the paramedic level of certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• Current valid, non‑probationary California Paramedic License, MD, or RN license.
• NAEMSE Instructor I or a comparable 40‑hour education course meeting California regulations.
• Ability to obtain required credentials within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• National Registry of EMTs (NRP) credential.
• Two years of post‑secondary instructor experience.
• NAEMT Instructor credentials (across disciplines) or AHA Instructor credentials.
