Job summary

Bozeman Health is seeking a Paramedic – Interfacility Transport to deliver advanced and critical care during interfacility transports for high-acuity patients. You will work with a Transport RN, assess and treat patients, and ensure safe transport per Montana scope and Bozeman Health protocols.

The role requires active paramedic licensure in Montana, NRP, BLS, ACLS/PALS within specified timelines, and an MVR- compliant driver's license.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited paramedic program.
• Current State of Montana Paramedic license.
• National Registry Paramedic certification (NRP).
• AHA BLS certification.
• AHA ACLS certification within 60 days of start.
• AHA PALS certification within 60 days of start.
• PHTLS or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Montana driver's license with acceptable MVR.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Registered Nurse to establish plan of care and provide advanced/critical care interventions.

• Administer medications and manage advanced airways; provide ventilatory support.
• Prepare, load, secure, and monitor patients and transport equipment.

• Maintain ambulance and equipment readiness and document deficiencies.
• Monitor weather, road conditions; participate in pre-briefs/debriefs.
• Participate in QA/QI activities and continuing education.

Job description

The Paramedic – Interfacility Transport delivers advanced and critical care during interfacility transports for high-acuity patients, from initial contact through handoff at the accepting facility. Working within the State of Montana scope of practice and Bozeman Health Emergency Services protocols, the Paramedic partners with the Transport Registered Nurse to assess, treat, and monitor patients while maintaining a safe transport environment. The role ensures clear communication with dispatch and care teams, complete and accurate documentation, and consistent readiness of transport equipment and the ambulance.

Required

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited paramedic program.
• Current State of Montana Paramedic or Critical Care Paramedic license.
• Current National Registry Paramedic (NRP – National Registry Paramedic) certification.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within sixty (60) days of start date.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within sixty (60) days of start date.
• Current Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
• Valid Montana driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Preferred

• Three (3) years of paramedic experience in 9-1-1 EMS or an emergency department setting.
• International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) credentials: CCP-C, FP-C, CP-C, or MTSP-C.
• Previous interfacility transport experience.
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) and/or VFIS driver training.
• FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) training: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800.
• Completion of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
• Completion of the Difficult Airway Course.

Essential Job Functions

In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must maintain timely completion of all required education, trainings, and certifications as assigned and in accordance with Bozeman Health policies, department-specific requirements, applicable certification program and registry requirements, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

• Collaborate with the Registered Nurse partner to establish the plan of care; coordinate and deliver advanced/critical care interventions per protocol and medical direction.
• Perform comprehensive assessments, interpret diagnostics, and continually reassess patient status; adjust interventions to meet transport goals and changing conditions.
• Administer medications, manage advanced airways, provide ventilatory support, and perform approved procedures within scope and authorization.
• Prepare, load, secure, and monitor patients and required transport equipment with the team; verify equipment readiness and security prior to movement.
• Use communication systems and GPS to coordinate with dispatch, team members, and receiving facilities; follow radio and telephone etiquette standards.
• Complete accurate, timely, and thorough electronic patient care reports (ePCR) and transport documentation; deliver concise, structured handoffs to receiving staff.
• Maintain ambulance and equipment readiness through daily check-offs, cleaning, restocking, and function testing; document deficiencies and arrange service as needed.
• Monitor weather, road, and safety conditions; conduct risk assessments and fatigue scoring; participate in pre-briefs and debriefs.
• Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities, skills maintenance, drills, and continuing education; incorporate evidence-based practice updates.
• Serve as a clinical role model and resource to internal and external partners; provide professional customer service and education as requested.
• Perform base duties and additional tasks as assigned to support transport operations.
• Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Schedule Requirements

• This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
• The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
