Summary

Administers pre-hospital care to sick or injured persons. Fully demonstrates proficiency and completion of each EMT level function.

Responsibilities
  • Administers advanced/basic pre-hospital emergency care to sick or injured persons.
  • Maintains equipment for constant state of readiness.
  • May participate in orientation and training of new employees.
  • May participate in training of students who perform practical rotations through EMS system.
  • Assists Emergency Room staff with daily operations or administration of care.
  • Recommends changes to lead staff to ensure smooth operation of EMS system.
  • Maintains crew quarters.
  • Has successfully completed twenty Advanced Life Support Calls while riding third with approved Paramedic Preceptor/Mentor.
  • Performs all ALS patient interviews, skills, and documentation while under direct supervision of preceptor.
  • Completes required ALS clinical observation forms.
  • Periodically (every thirty days) reviews ALS progress report with quality assurance and paramedic preceptor.
  • Continually prepares for upgrade to Paramedic 1 level B.
  • Fulfills all other EMS contractual obligations.
  • Performs at least 2 intubations.
  • Rides third with approved preceptor for at least twenty ALS calls.
  • Fulfills all sponsor hospital medical control and requirements.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position and performs all other duties as assigned.
Education

HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Other Information

Required: High School graduate. Minimum two years’ experience.

CT Licensed Paramedic, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Science. AHA BLS, PHTLS/ITLS, TECC/TCCC, NRP.

Working Conditions

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Significant occupational risk

Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force

Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
