University Hospitals in Ohio is seeking a Paramedic I to deliver high-quality emergency and non-emergency care in a fast-paced ED and transport setting. You will perform EKGs, blood draws, IV access, bedside testing, ABGs, and other delegated tasks while adhering to PHI protections and department policies.

Qualifications

Graduated from a state accredited paramedic program (required).
3+ years Paramedic experience (Level II) and 5+ years Paramedic experience (Level III) OR a Bachelor's degree in EMS with related experience.
State of Ohio Paramedic Certification required (upon hire); CPR/BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications preferred/required as specified.

Responsibilities

Assist patients and healthcare needs during ED visits, including 12-lead EKGs, blood draws, Hep-locks, bedside point-of-care testing, and aerosol treatments.
Ensure daily completion of point-of-care testing quality controls, defibrillator checks, and transport preparations.
Perform ABGs and gain IV access as directed by orders.
Prepare patients and care environments for exams and specimen collection; anticipate needs of patients and providers.
Perform delegated basic procedures per competency-based tool and orientation.

A Brief Overview

You will assist patients and health care needs as directed by clinicians during Emergency Department visit including performing 12 lead EKGs, blood draws, initiate Hep-locks, bedside point of care testing, aerosol treatments.
You will ensure the daily completion of point of care testing quality controls, defibrillator checks, refrigerator checks, transports.
You will perform ABGs and gain IV access as directed by order.
You will prepare patients and care environments for exam, specimen collection and anticipates needs of patients and providers proactively.
You will perform delegated basic procedures as described by the competency based tool and orientation program.

Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education

Other Accredited Program: Graduated from a state accredited paramedic program (Required)

Work Experience

3+ years Paramedic Experience (Level II)
5+ years Paramedic Experience (Level III) OR Associates degree and 3 years’ experience Bachelors of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services OR classroom/clinical instructor (ACLS, PALS, ITLS, BLS instructor)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Able to communicate effectively with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds; able to organize changing work assignments. (Required proficiency)
Medical terminology. (Preferred proficiency)
Patient care equipment specific to assigned population, telephone, beeper system, and nurse call system.
Three Peer Reviews required for Level II and III
Criteria to Promote and Maintain (five for Level II; seven for Level III)

Licenses and Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Required)
State of Ohio Paramedic Certification required. (Required Upon Hire)
PALS (exception CMC) (Required within 6 Months)
Paramedic Specialty Certification (doesn’t include BLS, ACLS, ITLS, PALS, or NRP) ; required for Level II & III) (Required)
