Job description

Gundersen Health System Ambulance (GHSA) is seeking a full‑time Paramedic to join our Sparta & Tomah ambulance teams serving an area of nearly 1,000 square miles across Iowa and Wisconsin. Scheduled weekly hours: 40 (full‑time, 80 hours biweekly with a 1.0 FTE schedule).

What You’ll Do

• Respond, treat, and transport patients in emergency and non‑emergency settings.
• Function as a crew member of an ambulance in Rural 911, paramedic intercepts, and inter‑facility transfer environments.
• Provide transfer services for Gundersen Critical Access hospitals and non‑affiliated hospitals throughout the region.
• Perform Paramedic‑level clinical care to patients of all ages in accordance with established policies, protocols, and standards under the guidance of Gundersen Health System medical direction.
• Participate in a 10‑shift ride‑along with a Field Training Officer and receive internal training for Incident Command System & Certified Emergency Vehicle Operation (CEVO).

Schedule

• Sparta: 24‑on / 72‑off work schedule.
• Tomah: self‑schedule flexibility (12, 24, and/or 48‑hour shifts) or traditional 24/48 work schedule, based on scheduling preference.

What You’ll Need

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• ICS 100, 200, and 700 certificates required within 60 days of hire.
• Certified Emergency Vehicle Operation (CEVO) or equivalent required within 60 days of hire date.
• Paramedic license in Wisconsin to begin employment; paramedic license in Minnesota required within 60 days of hire date.
• National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as a National Paramedic (NRP).
• Valid Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Iowa driver’s license.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Current Infant‑Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (hands‑on).
• Registered nurses with NREMT and EMT licenses approved as an RN exemption through Iowa and Wisconsin may replace the NRP and Paramedic license requirements.
• Prior work experience in an emergency or pre‑hospital setting is strongly preferred.
