The Paramedic administers life support care and transport to patients in pre-hospital settings as authorized and directed by a physician. The Paramedic performs a variety of skills related to acute and non-acute settings in ground and/or air transport, responds to medical emergencies in a 911 setting, protects life, and administers cardiac and trauma support when needed. The Paramedic gathers and analyzes information and uses reason when dealing with emotional topics. The Paramedic manages difficult customer situations and maintains confidentiality. The Paramedic is also expected to support Carilion's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical program in paramedic studies preferred.
Experience: One year Paramedic experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Certified in the state of Virginia as a Paramedic and National Registered Paramedic status maintained (preferred). AHA BLS - HCP and ACLS required. PALS, Haz Mat Awareness, NRP, and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.
Other: Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by state and national standards. Must provide current driving record and meet driver eligibility requirements for all driver positions.
