Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Paramedic for a full-time, non-suppression position with the Roanoke Fire-EMS. This role performs technical work in human health emergency medical services and helps maintain equipment on emergency vehicles.

The job requires a GED or higher, an EMT-Paramedic credential, and 18+ years old with a valid license and EVOC. Preferred qualifications include an Associate degree in emergency health sciences and certifications such as AHA, ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma required; Associate degree in emergency health sciences or related field preferred.
• Related EMS experience and/or training acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Must be 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license and EVOC.
• Must be EMT-Paramedic (or EMT-I with intent to obtain EMT-Paramedic within 1 year) and hold AHA, ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical work in health emergency medical services under emergency conditions.
• Assist in maintaining equipment inventory on emergency vehicles.
• Maintain vehicles in clean and working order.
• Readiness to work a 12-hour shift schedule (12-hour day x 3 days per week).

This position performs technical work in human health emergency medical services where duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazard. The Paramedic assists in maintaining equipment inventory on emergency vehicles. Maintains vehicles in a clean and working order. High school diploma or general education degree (GED required); Associate degree with courses in emergency health sciences or related field; related experience and/or training in emergency medical service; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license and EVOC issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD and submit to a drug screening test. Must possess and maintain EMT-Paramedic (or be an EMT-I and obtain EMT-Paramedic within 1 year of employment) , AHA, ACLS, PHTLS, PALS and any other required certifications appropriate to duty assignment within the Fire/EMS department.
