Job summary

Liberty County Georgia Government's EMS department seeks skilled Paramedics to deliver high-quality emergency care at the paramedic level. You will respond to a range of emergencies, assess patients, administer care, and coordinate with dispatchers, firefighters, police, nurses, and hospital staff.

This full-time role requires state Paramedic certification, Georgia driver’s license, and at least one year of EMS experience; ACLS/CPR is required, and PHTLS/PALS are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
  • More than one year of related EMS experience required.
  • Georgia Class C driver’s license required.
  • State EMS certification at Paramedic level required.
  • American Heart CPR required.
  • American Heart ACLS required; PHTLS and PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls for emergencies including cardiac, respiratory, obstetric, stroke, injury and other medical incidents.
  • Obtains medical histories and directs appropriate aid and response.
  • Provides paramedic-level medical care and treatment in emergencies.
  • Communicates with medical personnel via radio/phone regarding patient condition and treatment.
  • Transports patients in an ambulance.
  • Completes required patient reports and shift documentation.
  • Maintains and checks equipment and supplies at start of shift.
  • Participates in training and continuing education to maintain certification.
  • Attends public events for EMS demonstrations and outreach.
  • May serve as Medical Incident Command during mass casualty events.

Job Summary

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking skilled Paramedics to serve in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department. This position is responsible for providing high-quality emergency care at the paramedic level to patients. The ideal candidate is clinically strong, compassionate, and able to make quick decisions while working collaboratively with dispatchers, firefighters, law enforcement, nurses, and hospital staff.

Major Duties
  • Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, childbirth, strokes, seizures, sports and automobile accidents, and other traumatic and medical incidents.
  • Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid and response guidelines.
  • Provides general medical care and treatment at the Paramedic Georgia scope of practice-level to patients in an emergency situation as defined by state and local regulations.
  • Communicates with medical personnel via 2-way radio and telephone regarding injured persons' condition, vitals, and other relevant treatment information.
  • Transports patients in an ambulance.
  • Completes required patient reports prior to the end of shift.
  • Replaces, cleans, and resets equipment and supplies and conducts ambulance check-off at start of shift.
  • Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification.
  • Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed.
  • Provides public safety demonstrations and screenings.
  • Attends mandatory classes as deemed by the department.
  • Subject to recall and mandatory overtime.
  • May be required to act as Medical Incident Command on mass casualty scenes or disasters in the absence of a supervisor, Deputy Director or Director.
  • Performs related duties.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects (>100 lbs.), climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, in a very noisy place, or outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
Supervisory And Management Responsibility

This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel within the EMS department including EMT, EMT-I and EMT-A.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred.
  • More than one year of related experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
  • Possession of appropriate state EMS certification at the Paramedic level.
  • American Heart or Red Cross CPR required
  • American Heart Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
  • PHTLS preferred
  • PALS preferred
Work Schedule, Salary And Benefits

Available full-time shift options may include:

  • Two 24-hour shifts for 48 hours weekly
  • Two 16-hour shifts and one 8-hour shift per week for a total of 40 hours/week.
Annual Compensation Depends Upon Years Of Experience
  • Less than 5 years - $21.63/hour
  • 5 to 9 years - $22.51/hour
  • 10 or more years - $23.42/hour
