The Paramedic is responsible for providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) services. Provides quality pre-hospital care to individuals of all age groups when delivering emergency care and transportation. Ensures the safe and prompt transportation of patients while maintaining professionalism. This role may involve working in hazardous conditions and uncontrolled environments while wearing appropriate PPE. It requires critical thinking skills to assess, triage, communicate, treat, and transport patients of all ages in various settings, including emergency and non-emergency transport, standby and special events. The paramedic must coordinate seamlessly with other emergency agencies and healthcare providers. All patient care reports must be completed accurately, and daily operational tasks are expected in support of the department. Actions must comply with New Jersey Guidelines (N.J.A.C. 8:41), HMH protocols, policies, and procedures for ALS services.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to calls.
  • Support public safety personnel and healthcare providers in patient care.
  • Perform assessments and use critical thinking to determine treatment needs.
  • Modify and deliver care tailored to patient needs, including communication at their level.
  • Provide effective pre-hospital care, gather essential data, and document thoroughly.
  • Attend to patient comfort during transport in all weather conditions.
  • Operate motor vehicles safely, following laws and HMH policies.
  • Conduct daily vehicle and equipment checks.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Use wireless communication professionally.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance programs and provide complete handoffs.
  • Complete patient care reports timely and accurately.
  • Document controlled substances and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Report incidents and maintain supplies.
  • Provide education and stay current with policies, regulations, and certifications.
  • Ensure certifications are current and notify leadership of any issues.
  • Maintain clinical competency through training and reviews.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and support team training when assigned.
  • Behave professionally in accordance with HMH Code of Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Incident Command System training (ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, IS-800.D).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Preferred:
  • Associate's degree.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic Certification, National Registry EMT-Paramedic, or MICN.
  • AHA BLS HCP, ACLS, PALS certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator certification within 90 days.
  • Trauma Life Support certifications within 6 months.

Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment, climb in/out of ambulances, and work in tight spaces.
