Description

Purpose

Provides the practice and delivery of safe, effective, ethical and culturally competent emergency care to patients of all ages in emergency situations who require stabilization and/or resuscitation as a result of illness or injury. Key accountabilities include fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships; making decisions in patient care/triage; ensure smooth shift operations; facilitate a seamless transition for the next shift that includes exchange of essential information. Performs technical procedures according to Jackson County Regional Health Center Ambulance protocols and functions within their Scope of Practice in accordance with the Iowa Department of Public, Bureau of EMS. In addition, assists in CS, Purchasing, Cardiopulmonary/Med Surg, ED or any other area of the hospital when asked/needed. Paramedics also play an essential role in educating the community about health and safety practices and often assist in emergency preparedness and response planning.

  • Monitor patient’s condition en route to the hospital
  • Collaborate with interested parties (police, firefighting unit, doctors etc.)
  • Write and submit concrete and accurate reports on incidents
  • Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards
  • Keep abreast with new treatment and medical procedures through continuous training

Working Conditions:

There is routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks, and otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
