What You’ll Do:
- Responding promptly to emergency calls and assessing the medical needs of patients
- Administering appropriate medical treatment and interventions according to established protocols and guidelines
- Safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders
- Completing and maintaining accurate records and documentation related to transport, equipment inspection, supplies usage, incidents, and other operational records
- Maintaining compliance with PSI and Department of Health requirements for continuing education and licensure
- Maintaining a professional appearance, personal hygiene, and demeanor while on duty
- Inspecting and reporting damage, safety issues, or problems with ambulances, vehicles, equipment, and supplies; assisting with maintenance
- Participating in public education, relations, safety programs, EMS training, fire training, fire prevention, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, and instruction activities
- Responding to fire alarms, laying and connecting hoses, maintaining pumping apparatus, and operating firefighting and rescue equipment
- Preserving evidence at fire scenes and performing search and rescue operations in hazardous environments
- Attending firefighting and emergency medical techniques training, drills, and familiarization with city layout and response systems
- Assisting in training fire department personnel in emergency medical techniques and maintaining inventory of drugs and controlled substances
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Current/Valid Illinois Driver’s License of proper classification
- Successful completion of a Paramedic program and current Illinois Department of Public Health License
- Capability to complete continuing education and testing requirements
- State of Illinois Firefighter Certifications (for Firefighter applicants)
- Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check
- Passing pre-employment tests including a physical, drug screening, agility, and lifting evaluation
Preferred Certifications (not required):
- ACLS
- PALS/PEPP
- PHTLS/BTLS/ITLS
- CPR Instructor
