Qualifications

Must possess a Michigan Paramedic license or be scheduled to take the exam.
State of Michigan Firefighter I and II certifications required.
Valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record.
U.S. Citizenship.
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
All entry‑level criteria must be met and copies of certifications and transcripts attached to the online application.
Current City of Dearborn fire interns within one year of completion of minimum qualifications are eligible to apply, but must complete all qualifications before being placed on the eligible list.

Responsibilities

Performs and administers first aid and emergency treatment in firefighter duties.
Lifts and carries victims using backboards and related equipment.
Operates and connects hose lines to standpipes, sprinklers and hydrants.
Climbs ladders and performs firefighting duties under emergency conditions.
Assists in fire suppression, rescue, and patient care as required.
Maintains equipment including breathing apparatus and rescue tools.
Attends in-service training sessions on firefighting methods and safety procedures.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
