Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Denton, TX is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and inform donors of unsuitable results. The role reports to the Plasma Center Manager for operations.

The candidate will work under the Center Physician for medical issues, follow EHS guidance, and support vaccination programs while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • EMT-Paramedic license or certification.
  • CPR and AED certification.
  • State requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • FDA approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, and physical examination.
  • Evaluate donor reactions per SOPs and follow medical emergency SOPs.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for abnormal findings or guidance.
  • Support vaccination programs for employees (Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu).
  • Manage incidents and coordinate with occupational health/ER per EHS guidance.
  • Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist investigations.

Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse)

Report to the Plasma Center Manager and support plasma center operations.

About the role

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Medical Support Specialist will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).

How you will contribute
  • Determine donor eligibility, including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reaction(s) per SOPs, follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, support Center Physician standing orders and donor transport.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or guidance regarding medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine further evaluation by occupational health/ER, referencing EHS guidance.
  • Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations of pandemic threats.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT‑Paramedic.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Complete FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
Compensation and Benefits

USA - TX - Denton

U.S. Hourly Wage Range: $24.32 - $33.44

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short‑term incentives, medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, basic life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, well‑being benefits. U.S. based employees may receive up to 80 hours of sick time per calendar year, and new hires accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
