Position Summary
Provides and documents individualized patient care, ensuring patient and personal safety, conducting patient assessments in collaboration with the supervising RN or RT, performing patient re-assessments, triage, maintaining airway patency, establishing IV access, hanging IV fluids without additives, interpreting ECGs, recognizing dysrhythmias, administering oxygen via defined devices, and assisting with orthopedic equipment under the supervision of a Licensed Physician.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Delivers patient care requiring advanced skills in Emergency, Critical Care, or Respiratory departments as directed by the Medical Director, following protocol orders and guidelines within current Paramedic competency, adhering to Alabama state educational guidelines.
- Performs invasive and pharmacologic interventions in the pre-hospital environment to reduce morbidity and mortality, with modifications for hospital settings where medical resources are readily available.
- Communicates patient condition information effectively to RNs, RTs, and healthcare providers, and documents care according to guidelines.
- Ensures the physical comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and staff, including infection control and hazardous material handling.
- Prioritizes and sequences work activities to ensure patient comfort, safety, and progress towards goals.
- Administers limited medications safely within educational and competency guidelines.
- Supports patient movement within the department and facility, facilitating admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Maintains regular attendance in accordance with hospital policies and legal standards.
- Ensures compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
- Provides an exceptional customer experience.
- Participates in maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and stocked department, respecting patient rights and legal considerations.
- Complies with regulatory and accreditation standards and performs additional duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient's age, understanding principles of growth and development, and assessing patient data to meet individual needs.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Successfully completed a Paramedic program.
- Licensure/Certification: Current Paramedic certification in Alabama, renewed biennially; current BLS/Healthcare provider certification; current ACLS certification; PALS certification within one year of hire if applicable.
