Job summary

Job Summary

The Paramedic participates as a member of the nursing staff by performing various assessments, treatments, and technical tasks as requested. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Paramedic assists with the delivery of non‑critical and critical emergency care within the limits of his or her training, and documents that care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses emergency patients and assigns appropriate triage level.
  • Assists with patient transport and room cleaning and turnover.
  • Collects and documents data on Emergency Department records, including vital signs, height/weight, and peak flows.
  • Performs all procedures within the scope of the Paramedic license and in accordance with hospital policies and at the direction of a provider, including cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, moderate sedation, assistance with Rapid Sequence Inductions, IV insertion and maintenance, cast application, oxygen therapy, sterile procedures, ear irrigations, burn care and wound dressing, blood draws (except legal samples), nasal and oral intubation, intraosseous infusion, patient teaching on crutches, splints, and wound care, and documentation of all assessment and care.
  • Assists with emergency procedures such as a‑line and chest tube insertion, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, and central lines.
  • Administers medications listed and approved by the state for Paramedics, as well as additional medications not on the state list such as narcotic pain medications, IV piggyback antibiotics, antiemetics, immunizations, IV thrombolytics (with nurse or provider in attendance), high‑risk medications (second check), and over‑the‑counter medications.
  • Initiates and completes Home Medication Lists and enters them in the EMR.
  • Witnesses narcotic waste and serves as the second check for high‑risk medications and blood products.
  • Provides care and assistance for critical care transports.
  • Attends and participates in hospital and departmental meetings as required.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrates the hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co‑workers, patients, families and visitors.
  • Actively participates in problem‑solving identification and resolution, both intra‑ and inter‑departmentally.
  • Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified EMT‑P in the State of NH.
  • Five years of experience as a practicing pre‑hospital Paramedic (preferred).
  • Licenses and certifications: PALS, ACLS, BLS.
