Job summary

Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, NH, seeks a Paramedic for the Emergency Department on Full Time Nights. You will participate in assessments, treatments and documentation under RN supervision, providing advanced emergency care within licensed scope.

Responsibilities include triage, patient transport, data collection, and medication administration per state rules. Liaisons with hospital staff and ongoing professional development are encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certified EMT-P in NH.
• Five years of pre-hospital Paramedic experience preferred.
• Current PALS, ACLS, and BLS certifications are required.

Description

The Paramedic participates as a member of the nursing staff by performing various assessments, treatments and technical tasks as requested. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Paramedic assists with the delivery of non‑critical and critical emergency care within the limits of his/her training, and documents that care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Provides advanced emergency care in the hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Assesses emergency patients and assigns appropriate triage level.
• Assists with patient transport.
• Assists with room cleaning and turnover.
• Collects and documents data on Emergency Department records including vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, oxygen saturation, height/weight and peak flows).
• May perform all procedures within the scope of the Paramedic license and as in accordance with hospital policies and at the direction of a provider, including cardiac monitoring with cardioversion and defibrillation, moderate sedation, assistance with Rapid Sequence Inductions (RSI), IV insertion and maintenance, cast application and removal, oxygen therapy, setting up sterile procedures, ear irrigations, initial care and treatment of burns and follow‑up care and debridement, cleaning and dressing wounds, blood draws (except legal samples), nasal and oral intubation at the direction of a provider, intraosseous insertion and infusion, patient teaching on the use of crutches, splints, dressings and wound care.
• Documents all assessment and care given in accordance with hospital policy.
• Assists with emergency procedures including a‑line and chest tube insertion, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis and central lines.
• Administers all medications listed and approved for Paramedics by the state.
• Administers medications not on the state list, including narcotic pain medications (oral, IV or IM), IV piggyback antibiotics and antiemetics, immunizations, IV thrombolytics (with nurse/provider in attendance), high‑risk medications (with a nurse serving as the second check) and over‑the‑counter medications.
• Initiates and completes Home Medication Lists and enters them in EMR.
• Provides care and assistance as needed for critical care transports.
• Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required.
• Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to the job.
• Demonstrates the hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co‑workers, patients, families and visitors.
• Actively and appropriately participates in problem‑solving identification and resolution, both intra‑ and inter‑departmentally.
• Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer services provided.

Qualifications

Education

High School or better.

Experience

Certified EMT‑P in the State of NH.

Five years as a practicing pre‑hospital Paramedic preferred.
