Job summary

Orlando Health ORMC seeks a Paramedic to provide and document individualized patient care in the Emergency Department. The role supports patient safety, assessments, triage, airway patency, IV access, and ECG interpretation under physician supervision, with supervision tailored to the hospital setting.

The position requires completing a Paramedic program and maintaining Florida PMD certification, plus BLS/ACLS; PALS must be obtained within one year of hire.

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed a Paramedic program.
  • Current Florida Paramedic (PMD) certification.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Must obtain and maintain PALS within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers patient care in the Emergency Department as directed by the Nursing Operations Manager or designee.
  • Performs patient assessments, triage, and documentation per department protocols.
  • Maintains safety and administers IV access and airway management as needed.
  • Communicates patient condition and care plan to the supervising physician and nursing leadership.
  • Adheres to Florida paramedic practice model within hospital guidelines.

Job description

The first week is a corporate orientation week requiring open availability Monday – Friday 8 am – 4 pm.

Position Summary
  • 3 shifts per week
  • Hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Location: 52 West Underwood St., Orlando, FL 32806

The Paramedic provides and documents individualized patient care to include patient and personal safety, patient assessments in collaboration with the ED RN, patient re‑assessments, triage, maintaining airway patency, IV access and hang normal saline without additives, ECG interpretations, dysrhythmias recognition, and assists with the application of skeletal traction, splints, immobilizers and other orthopedic equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers patient care requiring advanced skills and judgment in the Emergency Department setting as directed by the Nursing Operations Manager or their designee, including protocol orders or guidelines within approved current Emergency Department Paramedic competency.
  • The competency will not exceed the scope of practice for a paramedic in the State of Florida.
  • All care delivered in the emergency department is under the supervision of a physician (protocols/standing orders).
  • The Florida paramedic practice model includes invasive and pharmacologic interventions intended to reduce morbidity and mortality in the pre‑hospital environment.
  • In the hospital setting where medical care and resources are readily available, this practice model will be modified.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the Nursing Operations Manager or their designee.
Qualifications
Education / Training
  • Successfully completed a Paramedic program.
Licensure / Certification
  • Current certification as a Paramedic (PMD) in the State of Florida renewed every 2 years.
  • Maintains current BLS / Healthcare provider certification for healthcare providers.
  • Maintains current ACLS certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain PALS certification within one year of hire.
