The paramedic is directly accountable for the care given to patients in the Emergency Department. He/She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptoms. The paramedic must respond quickly and accurately to changes in the patient’s condition and response to treatment. Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to the appropriate agencies is required.
An ERT-II is trained in emergency medicine care according to standards prescribed by the Georgia Composite State Board. The paramedic performs a wide range of life-saving techniques in various conditions and is a specialist in pre-hospital emergency department care. An ERT-II works as part of an emergency medical team performing advanced life support procedures and other tasks as directed by a licensed physician and registered nurse. They perform paraprofessional tasks in basic and advanced life support.
