Job summary

St. Louis Children’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Paramedic to work in the Emergency Department and Trauma unit. This part-time role offers night shifts from 7:00pm to 7:30am with every 3rd weekend scheduling and a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

The hospital is renowned for pediatric care and education, with extensive clinical programs and Magnet-status nursing excellence. The Paramedic will perform triage, assist in emergency procedures, and coordinate with RN/NP/physician supervision.

Qualifications

• Paramedic with ACLS and BLS certifications.
• High school diploma or GED required; EMT not specified.
• Experience: <2 years required; 2-5 years preferred.
• Experience in ED/trauma settings desirable.

Responsibilities

• Documents initial and updated assessments; triage and room assignments.
• Assists with invasive procedures and medications under RN/physician supervision.
• Maintains certifications and participates in emergency response training.
• Collaborates with community first responders to develop preparedness strategies.
• Supports care for medical, trauma and mental health patients across acuity levels.
• Performs routine equipment tests and ensures supply readiness.

Role Purpose

The Paramedic-ED and Level 1 Trauma is responsible for all aspects of emergency/trauma medical services and non-medical care in the Emergency and Trauma environment. This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner and/or an Emergency Room (ER) physician in order to be interchangeable with nursing demands in these situations.

Responsibilities

• Documents initial and updated assessments on all patients; performs triage and assigns trauma patients to rooms. Educates and discharges patients as necessary.
• Implements individualized quality care after initial evaluation. Performs invasive procedures such as IV and catheter placements, testing including all lab tests, treatments and sedations as directed by the RN, NP or Physician.
• Maintains certifications, competency and actively participates in training for emergency response. Assists with direct patient care during disasters, crisis intervention and response. Collaborate with community first responders to develop, implement, and evaluate preparedness strategies.
• Responsible for assisting in prioritizing and performing care for medical, trauma and mental health patients for various levels of acuities. This includes bedside trauma care, medication administration including narcotics and other bedside responsibilities within the Paramedic scope of practice.
• Performs routine equipment function tests and calibrations, assists with the maintenance and cleaning of patient care equipment and with the inventory of supplies and equipment ensuring adequate supply levels.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
