Job Description Summary:

This position provides navigation of medical care and services to the citizens for assigned area(s). Responds to medical emergencies and provides appropriate life support per scope of practice to individuals of injury and/or illness and transports to appropriate medical facility.

Qualifications:

  • Current Montana Paramedic licensure required. National Registry Paramedic certification preferred.

  • Current Drivers’ License required.

  • Must possess a good driving record clear of the following for the past thirty-six (36) months from time of hire:

    • Conviction of a felony involving a motor vehicle.

    • Conviction of sale, handling, or use of illicit drugs.

    • Conviction of an alcohol or drug-related offense while driving.

    • Driver’s license suspended or revoked.

    • Conviction of three (3) or more speeding or other moving violations.

  • Must maintain state-mandated continuing education requirements:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent

    • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Provides Paramedic care through basic life support in the pre-hospital 911 setting and inter-facility environment.

  • Accurately and efficiently completes documentation, patient care reports, and other required forms and/or related tasks.

  • Exhibits competencies with all required EMS computer programs. Assists with data collection and generation of reports.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Exhibits knowledge, understanding, and accurate operation to include, but may not be limited to; ambulances, communication devices, patient care equipment, extraction equipment, etc.

  • Provides direction and assistance to appropriate stakeholders and/or public safety personnel as needed. Provides ALS assessment to patient determined to be in need of ALS level of care and transport.

  • Assists the incident commander at scene responses and provides direction in the areas of patient care expertise.

  • Monitors equipment for proper function, reports malfunctioning equipment, restocks supplies, and maintains clean vehicles and vehicle areas, per department protocol and as applicable to assigned area.

  • Performs Emergency Room Technician tasks and provides support as applicable to assigned area(s).

  • Exhibits knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to specific job duties, patient care, and safety.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.

Shift:

The Paramedic position follows the Kelly Shift Schedule with rotating 24 hour shifts that may include weekdays, weeknights, weekends and holidays. During each 24 hour shift, the position requires 12 consecutive hours of each shift to encompass the responsibilities of an Emergency Room Technician outlined in this job description. If an emergency call is received during the 12 hours as an Emergency Room Technician, the employee must resume the responsibilities of a Paramedic until the requirements of the emergency call are satisfied.
