Pay Range: $24.10 - $36.15

Major Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care in accordance with established Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protocols, medical direction, and applicable federal, state, and organizational regulations.
  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments, including airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, and vital signs, and initiates appropriate interventions within scope of practice.
  • Administers medications, performs advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, and other ALS procedures as authorized by protocol and medical control.
  • Ensures safe patient handling, movement, and transport, utilizing proper body mechanics, equipment, and infection prevention practices.
  • Operates emergency vehicles in a safe, courteous, and compliant manner, adhering to organizational driving policies and applicable traffic laws during emergency and non‑emergency responses.
  • Completes accurate, timely, and legible clinical documentation, including patient care reports, treatment records, charge capture, and non-transport documentation, in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, family members, healthcare providers, public safety partners, and receiving facilities to ensure continuity of care and appropriate handoff.
  • Maintains readiness of vehicles, equipment, and supplies, reporting deficiencies and ensuring compliance with inspection, maintenance, and restocking requirements.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and teamwork, serving as a clinical resource to Emergency Medical Services personnel and supporting a culture of safety, respect, and accountability.
  • Participates in required training, continuing education, quality improvement activities, and competency validation to maintain clinical proficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and level of the position.
Licensure, Registration, and Certification Required
  • Current, active, and unencumbered Georgia Paramedic License issued by the Georgia Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma, maintained without lapse.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required and must be maintained without lapse.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License required, with a driving record that meets organizational motor vehicle and hospital driving policy requirements.
  • Must meet organizational requirements for criminal background screening, licensure verification, and ongoing eligibility to practice.
Education Required
  • Prerequisite education requirements are validated by the Georgia Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma as part of the Paramedic licensure process.
Experience Required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience functioning in a Paramedic role or equivalent advanced life support environment required.
  • Any variation or exception to this experience requirement must be reviewed and approved by the Director of Emergency Medical Services or the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) with purview over the service line.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of advanced life support protocols, emergency medical procedures, and pre‑hospital patient care standards.
  • Ability to perform rapid and accurate patient assessment, clinical decision‑making, and intervention in high‑acuity, time‑sensitive environments.
  • Demonstrated skill in advanced airway management, medication administration, cardiac monitoring, and defibrillation within scope of practice.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and independent action within the framework of established protocols and medical direction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, public safety partners, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, professionalism, and composure under stress, including during emergency response and critical incidents.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy and information security standards.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ability to use visual acuity (near and distance) and auditory communication to assess patients, operate equipment, and communicate effectively in person and via telephone or radio.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in English to exchange information with patients, team members, medical control, and public safety partners.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull patients, equipment, and supplies, including weights of up to approximately 50–80 pounds, and to assist with patient transfers using proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements, including bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching (forward and overhead), and transitioning rapidly between positions.
  • Ability to maintain functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine and upper and lower extremities sufficient to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work in high‑stress, fast‑paced, and unpredictable environments, including exposure to emergency situations, trauma, and emotionally challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to tolerate environmental conditions such as noise, adverse weather, temperature extremes, confined spaces, and exposure to odors, chemicals, and bodily fluids while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective while managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • If assigned to a role classified under applicable physical performance or occupational health standards, ability to meet job‑related medical or fitness‑for‑duty requirements, as required by organizational policy.
Preferred Job Requirements
Preferred Certification/License/Registration
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification.
  • NREMT‑Paramedic certification is preferred but not required, as Georgia Paramedic licensure serves as the controlling credential for practice.
Preferred Education
  • Completion of additional nursing coursework beyond foundational requirements.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in high‑volume 9‑1‑1 response, hospital‑based Emergency Medical Services operations, or service delivery within a Level I Trauma Center environment.
  • Experience working in integrated, interdisciplinary health system environments, including collaboration with emergency departments, trauma teams, nursing, physicians, and ancillary services.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in high‑acuity emergency situations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to support team‑based care, mentorship, and informal clinical guidance.
  • Familiarity with electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) systems preferred.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.
