Paramedic Academy Student, EMT, Full-time 12 hr. Weekend Days + 1 Wkday

JOB SUMMARY: The Paramedic Academy EMT serves as an EMT for AirCare, the Emergency Department or other area as assigned in addition to attending scheduled Paramedic classes and clinical internships. AirCare Responsibilities include safe and efficient transport of patients including maintaining vehicle mission ready status and obeying all traffic laws and regulations of North Carolina Office of EMS. Emergency Department responsibilities include providing care for patients within scope of practice and assisting with transfer of patients upon admission. Academy responsibilities include reporting to and participating in assigned classes and clinical internships as required for completion of 4by NC Education Institution Paramedic Academy educational guidelines

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or equivalent. One year’s experience driving emergency vehicles preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License with no restrictions required. Current North Carolina EMT certification required. National Registry EMT preferred. Emergency Vehicle Operations course preferred. Meets acceptance criteria for and pre-accepted into NC Education Institution Paramedic program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Promotes the safe and supportive transport environment for all passengers in the transport vehicle.
  • Maintains patient privacy and ensures protected health information is secure.
  • Practices professional and courteous conduct in accordance with the values of the NC Education Institution and the expectations of the AirCare and Emergency Department leadership.
  • Meets and maintains regulatory requirements of NCOEMS and Paramedic Teaching Institution.
  • Completes appropriate documentation required by AirCare, the Emergency Department and the NC Education Institution


SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of emergency and non-emergency ambulance operation.

Effective oral and written communication skills including ability to document in electronic health record.

Computer skills

Ability to adapt to different work environments and different situations.

Strong critical thinking skills

Strong interpersonal skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Varies between clean, well lit, and comfortable climate to dirty, non-well lit and uncomfortable climate.

Potential exposure to contamination with blood or bodily fluids, requiring protective equipment

Highly stressful, dynamic conditions
