The Paramedic Academy EMT serves as an EMT for AirCare, the Emergency Department, or other assigned areas. Responsibilities include attending scheduled Paramedic classes and clinical internships. AirCare duties involve transporting patients safely and efficiently, maintaining vehicle readiness, and adhering to North Carolina traffic laws. Emergency Department duties include providing patient care within scope and assisting with patient transfers. Academy responsibilities include participating in classes and internships as required for completion of the NC Education Institution Paramedic Academy guidelines.
High school diploma or equivalent. Preferably, one year of experience driving emergency vehicles.
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License without restrictions. Current North Carolina EMT certification required. National Registry EMT preferred. Emergency Vehicle Operations course preferred. Must meet criteria and be pre-accepted into the NC Education Institution Paramedic program.
Knowledge of emergency and non-emergency ambulance operations.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including electronic health record documentation.
Ability to adapt to various work environments and situations.
Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
Work varies between clean, well-lit, and comfortable conditions to dirty, poorly lit, and uncomfortable environments.
Potential exposure to blood or bodily fluids, requiring protective equipment.
