Job summary

Welia Health in Minnesota seeks a dedicated Emergency Medical Services paramedic to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care on every call, under physician direction and in accordance with clinical protocols.

You will assess scenes, operate defibrillators and monitors, administer medications, manage patient transport, lead teams when needed, and communicate clearly with receiving facilities and families.

Qualifications

  • Valid paramedic certification per NREMT and Minnesota state requirements.
  • Past work in cardiac care or critical care transport preferred.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, BTLS, or PHTLS provider certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assess each call to determine best course of action and protocol.
  • Provide advanced medical care using defibrillator, monitors, oxygen and medications.
  • Lead scene management when needed and coordinate with receiving facility.
  • Communicate with patients and families to provide information and reassurance.
  • Maintain equipment, records, and certifications; ensure safety and standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
  • Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
  • Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
  • Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
  • Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
  • Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
  • Communicate with patient and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given, and to show compassion.
  • Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
  • Drive the ambulance or provide map reading support to minimize call response time.
  • Keep current on certifications.
  • Coach and educate partners of new and changing information as necessary.
  • Communicate with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
  • Observe, record, and report to the physician, the patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant events.
  • Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response.
  • Participate in community programs to maintain image and establish strong community relations.
  • Document activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.
  • Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Driving record in compliance with Welia Health policy regarding insurability. Past work experience in cardiac care or in critical care transport is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Current National Registry (NREMT) Paramedic certification and State of Minnesota Paramedic Certification.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, BTLS, or PHTLS Provider Certification.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Required to carry patients up and down stairways with limited help. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Prolonged sitting in ambulance while on transfers. Required to perform duties in ambulance while ambulance is transporting. (Sense of balance is very important.)
