Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or Paralegal certification required.
• Continuous learning, as defined by AFHI’s learning philosophy, is required.
• Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.
• Two (2) years of paralegal experience involving civil liability or workers compensation cases preferred.
• Prior experience with workers’ compensation claims is preferable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Review and summarize medical and other records and prepare summaries of relevant information.
• Interview witnesses and confer with personnel while researching.
• Assist attorneys with complex caseload research, subject and topic research, and briefings of court cases.
• Provide advice and guidance on contracts and identify complex legal issues.
• Assist attorneys with hearings by preparing notes and filing exhibits.
• Draft settlement documents and other pleadings as directed.
• Retrieve and analyze information from Workers' Compensation website.
• Assist in preparation of workers’ compensation files for hearing.
• Manage docket and case assignments with the Manager.
